Scouts, Rapunzel, and some other happenings this week

Monday night was my first night going to help out with the scouts, which is basically like boy and girl scouts in the U.S., only together. It was certainly interesting to say the least. The kids were absolutely nuts! They kept jumping all over me and Emily, and then they wouldn't let go, just kept hanging on us. All they did was color for the first half hour, and then we played a few games. One was "Chaos" which is where someone starts out as "it," and then once they tag someone that person becomes "it" also until everyone around them is "it" and it really does turn into chaos. (Sorry no pictures. I forgot my camera, so I will have to bring it with me next time.)

Tuesday Emily and I went to see Rapunzel (Tangled), and it was almost as cute in German as it was in English. I was hoping that maybe they wouldn't be able to translate the songs to German because that's not very easy, but they were able to, and it was still very very entertaining. I just love Eugene :)

This week we also watched Valentinstag (Valentine's Day). It was good, and luckily I've seen it before, so I was able to understand almost all of it. None of us have any movies, so we were able to get this one from one of the German students living in our dorm, but of course it was in German.

I've also taken up playing cards at night during the week with some of the other American students. I've learned how to play quite a few new games, including Euchre, which is surprisingly really fun. I thought it was going to be super boring; the name threw me off.

Saturday we went to Gießen, which is about a twenty minute train ride from Marburg. There's not a whole lot to see there, but that was ok, because we mostly just wanted to shop. I've bought myself one thing since I'v been here (a jacket), so I was excited to shop yesterday. I got a new shirt and a pair of boots. The boots were only 18 Euros, so I could not pass that up!

Then that night we went out to Südhaus again for dinner. It was the first time I've eaten Schnitzel since I've been here, and it was delicious!

Sunflower Lampshade (I thought it was pretty cute)

My plate before...
My plate after

I was soooo full though that some of the others helped me basically clean my plate. I also had some delicius Apfelwein mit Cola (apple wine with coke).

After that I went with some of the others to hang out with an American student that has been living here since September, but lives in the same dorm as us. He's from Pennsylvania, and when we met up with him at his friend's house we met his two other friends, one from Germany and the other from Ukraine. It was interesting to watch them converse in Denglish, the term they call German mixed with English.

Bis nächste Zeit!
